Clarity Check processes captures on your computer and never sends page content to a server.
Clarity Check Pro adds a license check that sends only license details.
Your agreement before inspection
Before the first inspection in each browser session, Clarity Check shows a local data
disclosure. Choose Agree and capture page to proceed, or Decline to capture nothing.
No page data is read until you agree. The agreement is kept in extension session
storage and clears when Chrome restarts or the extension reloads.
What a capture contains
Capture and source-element lookup read page text, computed roles, accessible names and
states, naming and relationship evidence, and limited DOM details. Captures also include
frame coverage, page and frame origin/path, capture times, viewport details, and browser
version. Pro’s page tools read the same kinds of facts. Ordinary page text may include names
and addresses, health or financial information, credentials, private messages, or location
information. Review the page state before capturing it.
How the extension handles it
Capture data is passed through temporary extension session storage to the inspector, then
removed after acknowledged receipt. An unclaimed handoff becomes unavailable after 120
seconds and is removed on the next cleanup check. Received captures remain in inspector
memory until you use Clear, reload, or close that tab. The extension does not keep snapshot
history or send telemetry. Editable values and editable subtrees may be read temporarily for
redaction, then are omitted or redacted before inspector handoff, though this cannot remove
sensitive information that appears elsewhere as ordinary page text.
Pro tools on the page
Pro adds its toolbar, element card, and labels inside one extension-owned element on
the page. Inspect mode also adds a style for the Clarity Check pointer. The page’s
scripts can detect these additions. The extension keeps links between captured
elements and their redacted facts in its isolated environment, so pointing at an
element does not require another debugger capture.
While Inspect is on, a click pins the element card instead of activating the page’s
control. The tools do not scroll the page on their own. They close when you close
them, leave or reload the page, after 30 minutes without use, or when Pro access ends.
A right-click target is remembered for up to 30 seconds. Before the first capture, the
target under the pointer can be held for up to 60 seconds so its card can be pinned
afterward. The DevTools helper holds a selected element for up to 30 seconds. These
temporary references do not copy its text or values.
Buying and checking a Pro license
Clarity Check Pro is sold by Emzee Studios through Lemon Squeezy, which processes payment as
merchant of record. Buying opens Lemon Squeezy’s checkout in a new tab; what you enter there
is covered by Lemon Squeezy’s privacy policy.
To activate or restore Pro, the extension sends your license key and a one-time random value
to Clarity Check’s licensing service, which confirms the purchase with Lemon Squeezy and
returns a signed proof. The extension keeps that proof and a status token in Chrome’s local
extension storage. While you use Pro, it automatically checks the license at most once a day,
sending the status token, the license ID, and a one-time random value. You can also choose
Check license status. A failed check does not remove valid Pro access saved in this browser.
License requests never include captures, page content, URLs, page titles, browsing history,
or device identifiers, and the free features never contact the licensing service.
The licensing service keeps license and order references, the license’s state, and hashed
status tokens. It does not store your name or email. It keeps these records while the
license exists, and afterward only as long as needed to handle refunds and restorations.
How data is used
Capture data is used only for the inspection feature. The extension does not send captures
to Emzee Studios or third parties, sell data, or use it for advertising or
lending decisions. License details are used only to confirm and restore Pro access. This use
follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Website visits
This website has no account, contact form, or analytics. It stores your text size
preference in your browser if you change it. Vercel hosts the site and may process
request metadata, such as your IP address, to deliver and secure it. The on-page demo
uses a saved capture of this website and sends no capture data. Other sites have their
own privacy practices.
Permissions
Chrome’s debugger permission lets the extension ask the browser for computed accessibility
facts from the tab you explicitly capture or look up an element in. Storage holds, for this
browser session, the agreement flag, the short-lived handoff to the inspector, and which
tabs have on-page tools; Chrome’s local extension storage holds the Pro license proof and
status token, the time of the last license check, and your display choices for labels,
cards, and embedded frames. With Pro, scripting and temporary tab access place the on-page
tools and helpers in the tab you capture, only after you start a capture from the toolbar,
the keyboard shortcut, or the right-click menu. The right-click menu adds Open this element
in Clarity Check, and Pro also adds a Clarity Check sidebar to the DevTools Elements panel.
The only network connection is Pro’s license check.
